The Brownlee Effect

Justine Brownlee's arrival and eventual rise to stardom in Philippine soil is a classic depiction of an old expression "blessings in disguise".  We first saw him as the Baranggay Ginebra's replacement import for the injured but dependable scorer Paul Harris at the beginning of the 2016 Governor's Cup.  The then virtually unknown Brownlee has eventually captured the hearts of the Baranggay and im sure even the non-BGK fans as well.

During that time the Kings were still in the hunt of its first crown in 8 years.  Having to undergo several coaching and roster changes.  What appears to be the missing and final piece to the puzzle is this Tifton, Georgia born guy.  Who will forget that last second buzzer beating magical fairytale'sque cellphone lit 3 point shot he made that finally ended the "Kangkong" era of the PBA's most loved club.  Some even put a nickname to the Jordan 12 kick he was wearing - some fans has called it JB12 in reference to the red and white Jordan 12.

After that, he has endeared himself to the Pinoy hoops lovers.  His superstar status appears to be something he is not aware of though.  Reports of his humility and accomodation towards his supporters are all over social media.  There was even a point where he was warned of some abusive fans who will keep on asking for something beyond he is supposed to provide.  Good thing he is sorrounded by good and protective people - leading that is his agent Miss Sheryl Reyes, whom we owed Justin's arrival.

And he only not just played for the Baranggay, he played for the country too.  His current stint with ABL's Tanduay Alab Pillipinas is actually his second tour of duty in representing the country.  He first played for Mighty Sports PH in 2017 Dubai Internationl Basketball Tournament alongside now PBA rookies Kiefer Ravena, Jeron Teng and Jett Manuel.  Also in that team are current PBA stars Chris Tiu, Ryan Arana, Beau Belga to name a few.

And now that he's playing with Alab together with another Sheryl Reyes player the controversial Renaldo Balkman, the duo appears to have injected the needed energy to Alab who's on a 3 game winning streak 2 of which with Justin and Renaldo on the roster.  This latest assignment proves that Justin is being recognized beyond the King's lair.  Jimmy Alapag used to playe and coach against Brownlee in the PBA and now he's coaching the guy who deprived him of a championship twice.  Now that's recognition!

Ending this piece with a wish and hope that Justin continues to be the humble guy that he is.  He stays healthy and in shape.  We're looking forward to his returns to the PBA in the Governor's cup and hopefuylly even in the Commissioner's cup!
